And why would that be any worse than the commercialization of Christmas or Thanksgiving or Cinco de Mayo?

Weird. Today’s Sunday. Were is the Sunday strip? I’m guessing this is actually Monday’s.

Anyway, why have a ‘sale’ at all? Why not make a regular price that we find appealing. I’m not at all impressed with 20%, 40%, final clearance, etc. Buy one/get one is barely understandable but I’ve fallen for it.

Hi fellow Cathyites. Appears that friend Aaron got home from work, collected his morning hug, and went right to bed.

KFG thanks a ton for the info you posted last ngiht. Aaron’s is Type 1a. He found that out only recently because he asked. He’s not being treated with meds or anything, and exercise is actually not good for him. He plays basketball and / or soccer weekly or more anyway. Once in a while he’ll take an amytriptyline tab (used for depression) to back off the nerve pain. If you can find it in your area, check out a free mag called Neurology Now.

We always thought that President’s day was made up so we can spend the “dead presidents” we earned the rest of the time. @Mona, you forgot about St. Patrick’s day, now an excuse to drink green beer all day. Thanksgiving is slowly turning into another day to go holiday shopping. Cathy’s a bit late in figuring out the retail part of a holiday. She still hasn’t figured out that Valentine’s day is just as commercial, if not more, than President’s day.

Isn’t today Sunday? And the strip isn’t in color, either.

    I demand perfection!!!!

It would have been a funnier strip if she had talked about making a connection between FDR, JFK, LBJ and DKNY, but I guess comparing to the “big” presidents (Washington & Lincoln) is usually what it’s about because it’s their birthdays this month. I remember when they separated the two birthdays. At least in school they talk about both presidents…Good morning (barely) Susan, Mona, Billy, gmforde and summerdog!Hello to GsMom, KFG, rgcviper, lindz.coop, hendelca, serenaskitty and all the other Cathy nuts rolling around here today!

@Billy & KFG – I’m finding your discussion fascinating (hope you don’t mind). Is there a test for HMSN? I know there’s not really a definitive one for MS (unless you know better). I’m glad we’re going to have a neurologist soon, although I’m sure some think you must have some nerve! ;-)

A little confidence can be a dangerous thing …

I, too, am wondering what’s happened to the Sunday comic—and the color.

    Nevertheless, Happy Sunday, everyone.

I have seen bars with Cinco de Mayo parties and that promotes selling drinks. I suppose that could be commercialism.

I read somewhere, or heard somewhere, that May 5 is not celebrated in Mexico. Go figure.

By the way, Sales Ladies, consumer confidence is not up if the consumer is driven to distraction and walks out of your store / area of the store empty handed. It’s even worse if that consumer is Cathy leaving empty handed.

If it isn’t, it soon will be. That is one reason that I only acknowledge Christmas, Easter and Thankgiving. The others I ignore and eventually, they go away.

Wow, what a busy day here! @Billy & Aaron – Interesting reading about HMSN… I hope Aaron doesn’t have much of a problem with it. Sounds like he has a full plate as it is. :-( That’s odd that exercise isn’t good for it.. usually exercise helps most anything (or so it seems).Good luck on the checkup – let us know how it goes.

Regarding the whole commercialization debate, I’ve got to agree that Cinco de Mayo is commercialized. Hardly anyone in the US knows what the celebration is about (no, it’s not Mexican Independence Day), but a lot of people go out that night to party. Just another excuse to party and hardly anyone would know about it unless it was advertised. In my mind, the only holiday that isn’t overly commercialized is Thanksgiving, which is one reason why it’s one of my favorites. Although, Black Friday is slowly taking over Thanksgiving, which irritates me.So rather than debate which “holidays” (real or faux) are commercialized, I’m more interested in knowing why Susan is most offended by MLK Jr. Day.

@KFG You would probably get pretty lonely here once you are a neurologist! There are no specialists in the area at all – a few in the larger towns like Sudbury (mostly heart and cancer). What we are desperately short of is GP’s. The town I am currently living in has a one to two year wait go get a family doctor. My home town, an hour away, there is no waiting list because there is no possiblity of having a family doctor unless you already have one (there are only 7 doctors (two of whom will see you only if you are French) to serve an area population of about 15 thousand. Many patients can get an appointment at the ‘no doctor’ clinic where, most of the time, a locum from Toronto fills in for two weeks at a time. A close friend suffered a heart attack and during his recovery had a new doctor every two weeks. Anyhow, I am happy your unfortunate ordeal with stupid academics is over and you can get on with your very promising future!

Hi to all the Cathyites!! Sorry about my lack of posts on weekends, but we go out a lot and I often don’t get home til really late and I just go to bed.

Don’t worry about me taking anything the wrong way Aaron (from Friday) — this seems to be the “safe” comics page!! I hope your checkup goes well — I have one next week.

Whoever said (again on Friday) that they couldn’t believe their friend could only eat 1 chocolate — my friends can never believe I go into a store and buy just 1 chocolate — it’s enough.
