I saw a tweet where people were saying Heathcliff humor had gone downhill? I haven’t read Heathcliff ever, but if had to guess, it seems the author has transitioned to making jokes similar to internet humor, where a joke is funny because it’s “random & unexpected”, rather than a “set-up and punch-line formula”.
