God help any cartoonist who would change a classic character or strip in any way. Why, they’d have to use a pseudonym if they were smart.

Lucy and Sally eventually started wearing slacks and shirts rather than dresses in Peanuts. I’m sure that some people found the change alarming, but I think it was for the best.
I’m pretty sure that hat was weird in 1949 as well…
