I met a guy who was the attendant for the gas pumps at a Costco. He (said) had been a doctor in the country he came from. Several months later he was inside, as one of the optical people. About a year and a half later, he was the manager of the electronics department. I didn’t see him much after that. I later asked if anyone knew where he was, and was told he went to another city to take a major management position at a new store in another city. So in about 4 years he made it from lowest position to one of the highest.
I have worked at the same company, same location for 26 years this August. Started as the assistant stock clerk and am now the manager. I only have 1 person on staff who has been with the company less than 2 years, and they were an emergency hire last week due to one employee leaving out of fear of covid infection because his wife was going through chemotherapy and it would have been extremely dangerous for her if he was exposed at work. If you treat your staff decently they stick with you.

It will be 20 years this summer for me, 19 in the store I’m at
There are only a small handful of people working there that have been in that store longer than I have
Lost track of how many store directors and grocery managers we’ve had in that time
