I absolutely understand! A light on in the front room is also a deterrent. Fortunately Midwestern ax murderers are rare. By the way, My “ope” is more of an “uop”. I didn’t even know I said it until I heard Charlie Berens.
I can relate. Took a long time before I was comfortable being alone. Even now I wake at every odd sound. The other night it was the worst sound EVER! The sound of the phone ringing at 3AM. NEVER a good thing….my friend had fallen and hit her head and bleeding profusely and was taken to the hospital. No sleep for me until late the next day. Thank goodness she’s slowly recovering now.
