Those beautiful, long silky ears are your best feature, Fred. Be proud!

The curious thing is that the elements of Fred’s design were bred into Basset Hounds for a reason. Bassets are the descendents of the Hounds of St. Hubert, which are scent hounds. The legs are short to make it easier for the Basset to keep his or her nose to the ground. The long flap-like ears act like a scoop when the dog’s head is down, guiding scents towards the muzzle. Thus, like the Citroen 2CV, or the original VW Rabbit, Basset Hounds are shaped in a way that suits their function.

He just means that your perfect Fred.
