If his parents meant to teach him the value of money, he should be given chores to do & earn the money. He learned nothing. That appeared to be 25 cents; he can’t get into any trouble with just a quarter…or can he? LOL
He certainly has learned the value of money, but he has yet to learn the difference between the definition of riches, and the definition of child’s allowance.
$.25=$.50 today, even in 1991 I don’t think it would buy a candy bar or bus fare for a kid < 12. Didn’t he have enough money ( $5?) a week ago to buy a punk rock LP?
Wow! Six to Scrooge in a heartbeat. Wait until he finds out just how much a dollar a week doesn’t buy. Scrooge to Oliver Twist in a slow spiral of poverty. …may I have some more, sir?
Allowances are the greatest thing for pre-teens and up. We fixed the amount they would give and gave them a list: I have to clean your room minus 5, I have to pick up after you minus 4, you get anything but a B or A minus 10, you are late coming home minus all of it for that week. You don’t do your chores minus 3 per chore. You give me attitude minus all of it for the week. A little rough the first 4 weeks, after that all the way up to 18 or they got a part time job, which ever came first, no problems.

What did Dad give his son, 25¢? That certainly won’t buy him much… just a gumball.

Hopefully he doesn’t live in Illinois, California, or New York and can actually keep some of his allowance…

Sure, let’s hope he lives in one of those states with low taxes and crappy roads, schools, power grids and infrastructure.

Wait until he sees what 25 cents a week gets you. That’s what I got when I was his age. Actually probably more like around 9 years old.

Apparently giving Calvin money isn’t sufficient to teach him the value of money.

Of course you blew it. Just handing money for nothing does no good. Unless one earns it, one will never knows its value.
