I’m reminded of one of my favourite sites, which tells you more than you could care to know about the lacing and tying of shoelaces. I don’t want to use an internet that doesn’t have sites like this:
Fire up DuckDuckGo and look for “Zeba shoes.” You tie them once, then just step into them each time. The heel crushes down when you step on it, then it pops up to grab your heel for a tight fit. You don’t ever have to bend down to tie them. (I’m not a shill, just a satisfied customer.)
Any of my one or two pairs of tie shoes are tied so I can get them on and off without having to tie and re tie. I am lazy. I do what I do REALLY well so I don’t have to do it again any time soon :D
Two things here: 1. If a Plugger can tie their own shoes, that means they can bend over and/or hold their breath long enough to get the job done. Double tie eliminates the need to do it again. 2. Maybe that’s why you see so many Pluggers wearing slip on shoes or shoes with velco
For years I was resorting to double-knotting my laces because I was unwittingly tying a “granny knot” in my laces. I learned to tie them the “right way”… now I only double-knot if I need to take up the slack in long laces: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkoKAMmxMIY

Phooey! I prefer loafers. I haven’t worn tie shoes for ages.

I tied mine about a year ago, and wear them like loafers.

I only had one pair where this was necessary and replacing the laces took care of the problem.

Continually bending over to retie my shoes is part of my daily exercise routine.

There is a method of tying your laces that has the strength of a double knot but with the ease of undoing a single. https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/

I have one pair of shoes I swear came with a self-unlacing feature. I double knot them and they STILL manage to get loose.

Many casual shoes come with laces so long you have to double knot them to keep from tripping on your laces.

And we only tie them tight enough to keep them on and make them slip-ons.

I always did that …

From my first pair of Red Wing work boots in the 1960s through today, there’s a square knot at the top of the laces every time I put ’em on.

I tie mine in double knots because the laces are inevitably too long.
