Anyone familiar with anime Lucky Star where they discuss which end of a cornetto pastry is the “head” and which end is the “tail” out of which to take a bite?
It’s just as well April didn’t get to eat it. Ice cream is not the best thing for young stomachs. Now the real question is whether Elizabeth noticed the mess and chose to ignore it before giving April back to Elly.
Most toddlers would have cried on losing the top of their ice cream cone, not so much that it landed in their lap… and they would at least play in/with it?
In between panel one and two, which we don’t see, April licks ice cream a bit, and her hand warms up the cone, in the meantime her curiosity is “peaked” by the cone’s point, so she turns it over—panel two—and the warmed up ice cream plops out on her jump suit, and the melted warm liquid oozes out on her bare leg, in the second panel…that’s one one joke>>>> babies are used to having all kind of leaks and oozes on their body parts, seeing as they are not yet trained, and eat their food in messy, oozing ways…
The second joke in in panel four: surprise clean up for mom.

She didn’t squeal when the cold ice cream landed on her bare leg? Not likely.

Just give her to Farley. He’ll clean her up. And April might like the attention she will get from Farley.

It’s not possible for her not to cry when that cold ice cream landed in her lap

NEVER give a baby/toddler an ice cream cone, unless you hold for her.

I know Canada is cold, but wouldn’t that ice cream have melted in the her lap before April got home?

Oh no you don’t Elly. You are the one who wanted Elizabeth outdoors, you are the one who deals with the mess.

Here’s a play by play explanation of the joke:
Elizabeth buys a kiddy cone for April.
