I worked in my dad’s dime store off and on when I was in my late teens/early ’20s. I looked like a hippie wearing clean clothes. Quite a few times when I was working at the check stand people would say, “Do you work here?” I always wanted to reply, “No, this is a robbery. Stay calm and no one will get hurt.”

A year into managing a retail store and I still would rather tell people I’m unemployed than admit to working for a certain dollar store company.
