I am reminded of something I used to do when I was working at a popular tourist spot. Guests would bring me a twig with half a leaf and ask me what kind of tree it was. I would always smile and tell them it was a deciduous and they could purchase one at the nursery. Gotta love the tourist.
About 20+ ago, in another town, when hubby and I were walking around our neighborhood, a pair of sisters (ages 7 and 5), had set up a little stand to sell their art. (It was basically a cardboard box ‘table’ with a classic “4 SALE” sign.) We stopped to admire their finger paintings, when I made the mistake of pointing to a tiny blob of pinch-pot and asked, “And how much is this one?” The girls, who were shocked that someone even asked, whispered to each other, and said, “Two dollars!” The tension was unbelievable, I couldn’t bring myself to beg off with a polite no thanks, so I gave them the money. We weren’t more than 10 ft away when I heard them burst into excited giggles behind us … I kept that lumpy little pot on my kitchen window sill, and every time I saw it, I heard their little squeals of laughter … totally worth it!

I like the chagrined seagull.
Amelia’s little booth, of course, recalls Lucy Van Pelt’s little business venture. I wonder how much she’d charge for psychiatric help in 2021.

Amelia’s in a good mood, usually she directs them back to the mainland.

When I first read that I saw “delicious” and all I could think of was Euell Gibbons and his pine trees are edible line.

Amelia is missing the point. She should be taking money from restaurants to recommend them to tourists. That is where the real money is.

For a dollar the tourists learned a valuable lesson, cheap: Caveat Emptor.

I like how she examines the dollar bill as if to confirm its genuine.

I love how she’s checking the 1$ Bill for anti-counterfeiting marks: There aren’t any on the 1.

Amelia seems to be the antisocial character. Who in our society is antisocial, wants to build condos and ruin nature?

Pssh. That stand and the brat would be in the water. Minus a “buck”.
