Not everywhere has cell reception. I was hiking last weekend and lost cell reception a couple of hours into the hike. Fortunately I have a Garmin GPS that works everywhere, even when my phone won’t work.
Grew up on a ranger station, wandered the woods and hills a lot. I never got “lost”… although I was "really turned around " for most of a day once, and got home well after dark.

As long as one of them has a cell phone, they aren’t lost. Just plug in that current location and check the map.

Back track. Bikes in grass leave a trail to follow back to pavement.

Funny how that deep, intimidating forest you explored with trepidation as a kid, turned into a small copse of trees when you grew up.

It’s a sensible man who admits to being lost.
