I’ve said this elsewhere, so pardon the repetition, but I won’t do anything just to “increase the value” of my house; if it doesn’t make it a better home for me, it doesn’t get done.
When we bought our current home, we had some time between closing and moving. We took advantage of that to renovate the 40-year old kitchen. After 2 years living here, I still love the cabinets & counters.
We have lived in our home for 31 years and the house was built in 1949. I know that the kitchen was redone once as it is not a 1950s kitchen. The downstairs bathroom had the sink in a cabinet – which the one upstairs did not, so that was added at some point, but the upstairs bathroom shower/tub area had ceramic not plastic tile as the rest of the room and the downstairs bathroom has, so some work was done on each. We planned to redo kitchen, but never get around to it – we did find a cabinet for the sink upstairs – but if anything happened to either bathroom’s cabinet or sink and they needed to be replaced, I don’t think ones so small are made any longer.
We still haven’t even finished painting all of the rooms which we started when we moved in.
Oh – we did change the handles on the kitchen cabinets after we moved in from “mediterranean black” to gold.

We’re getting a new kitchen in July, after 39 years of monogamy. (But it did take her 5 years to convince me we should do that).

Repaper. That’s the easier way to get a “new kitchen”.
