CLEO has outdone herself again on this beautiful morning” Could I please have the salmon (note to self, throw away 4 day old crab legs) and a cup of DOC’S invention. Thank you and keep the change.
Morning TRIBE! Again may I say how lucky I am to work for the finest boss on earth. We’re having annual reviews this week
Hi, Doc! - Sorry, I don’t know the answer to your question. I’m sure a determined person could figure out a way around any limits GoComics might place.
Hi, Terry! I’m glad the wake went well. I’ve never been to a wake, but I’ve been in funerals where funny stories were told about the deceased that had people laughing.
One of the most enjoyable funerals I went to was our pastor’s wife. She died most unexpectedly in her 50’s of a brain aneurysm, I believe. One of her sons got up there and told a story about when his pet snake got loose during a women’s gathering at their house in FL. He said that she told him that if he ever told the story, she’d kill him, so he figured it was finally safe to tell it!
Heheh, Rmom. I’ve got stories concerning my mother and she says she’ll kill me if I tell anyone. Boy, have I got a lot to talk about when that certain day comes! :^)
Hi, Dry & Cleo!Cleo - I hope I got Lew straightened out for you. I don’t know how he got the idea you’re a female, unless it is because you’re a great cook.
I’m glad to see you’re having some sun. We’re really glad to see it here too - lots of flooding around here. Unfortunately, we haven’t got the basement to stop leaking yet, either. It only seems to leak if the rain falls at a certain angle to hit the west wall, which is why I suspect a siding problem. But it was leaking like crazy last night shortly before we went to bed, so now I have a bunch of wet towels in the dryer.
Terry - I don’t want my funeral to be a sad affair, either! I’ve given instructions to my hubby that I don’t want sad songs. Now that I’ve been through making the arrangements for both parents, I guess I ought to do a better job of making it easier for my survivors, while I still remember the little details. My husband’s & my genetics are such that we think there’s a better chance of him out-living me, rather than vice versa. My paternal grandma died at 70, his at 104, so that gives you some idea of why we’re guessing that.
Rmom, I think my online name tends to be confusing as to my gender. When I chose my two dogs names I wasn’t really thinking that I was going to be doing any commenting. How wrong can a person be? LOL
“Hotlanta” is living up it its nickname!! (oh, I’m at work). Suppose to get up to 95 today! Anyone reading this in and around Atlanta, stay indoors (especaily at work) and stay cool! Later.
Luv - Well, at least it isn’t near as bad to clean up as some things I’ve had to clean up during my years as a mother. This is relatively clean water, not that I’d recommend drinking it, but at least it isn’t sewer-related.
Good morning all! Like most have been at Gocomics for awhile before joining. Enjoy your comments at Big Top, you are all becoming e-friends to me. May not comment too much until I get a better computer toward the end of the year. LuvH8 I am currently drinking German Chockolate Cake flavored coffee - perhaps combining the best of both?
Especially ♠Lonewolf♠, Rmom, cleo, Dry, Grog, LuvH8, DocT, and Josh (1360, although I have yet to see any of the other 1359…)!
Rmom, my dad said last summer after Mom died that early on in their marriage they had decided (1) each of their primary jobs was to cooperate with God in their salvation, (2) their secondary job was to raise any children they might receive as best they could, with other duties coming third, (3) it was very likely, barring some sort of accident in which both die simultaneously, that one of them would outlive the other, and–given family history–it was more likely to be Dad. So far, it seems that they were right on all counts.
Male. I have put as much as poss. into my profile. Due to rain my sump pump started going off durning the night. Just replaced it about 2 weeks ago as my old pump may of kicked the bucket (25 yrs. old), at least I am not having problems like Rmom!
Hi, bmonk! - I don’t know if my parents ever formalized their priorities, or not.
Mom & Dad were very faithful about taking us to church every time the doors were open, and supporting the work of the church. You had to be sick or had to work, in order to miss church in our family.
They did the best they knew how in raising us kids, I don’t really blame them for my siblings’ choices. No one is perfect.
Mom outlived Dad by almost 8 years, but since she was about 5 years younger, she was 85 when she died, and Dad had just turned 82.
My hubby & I have done the legal work, just in case we’re in an accident that kills us both off. But if we go by natural causes…my odds of dying first are higher.
Well, time for Algebra!
Too many, would take too much time to read all, Peanuts, 2C&C, Pickles; B.C., C&H, Wisard of Id. etc. Had a lot of Donald Duck etc. comice books, especialy by Carl Barks and Don Rosa, many newer artists didn’t hold true to the characters personalty.
Luv - Since I’ve never taken Algebra 2 before teaching it, we’re working the problems together. If I purposely pulled that trick (of marking problems wrong that he got right) on him, he wouldn’t be happy. But of course, I’ve done that accidently a few times - usually I catch my mistake, but not always. Then it gets blamed on my old, tired brain.
Sojourner - Kab is on the SW side. I’m SE of ICT - 30 min. to 1 hour drive, depending on the part of ICT. I don’t like to be too specific with my location on a public forum, especially because the closest town is itty bitty. But we can at least refer to locations in our part of the state, knowing the other will understand where we mean.
@Rmom, they were so comfortable about the idea of there being a survivor, that in later years, Mom would point out a good prospect to Dad, or vice versa, for when one of them was alone. Talk about “keeping death daily before your eyes” in a not so macabre way…
Welcome Sojourner. I’m not on frequently, but pop in to say hi now and then.
Because I posted it over at Close to Home thought you all might get a laugh from this too. Although Doc might not should look. If he doesn’t eat fruit, I’d hate to ruin vegetables for him also… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmK0bZl4ILM
bmonk - LOL! I think if my hubby goes first, I probably won’t remarry. I’m a fairly independent type of person. However, I don’t think my hubby would do as well single, so all I’ve told him is that if he ever remarries, that our sons need to be okay with his choice. I don’t think our sons would want their Dad to be lonely, but they would probably protect him from getting a “gold digger”, etc. Figured it would make their lives more peaceful, too, if our sons were okay with it. We’re not quite old enough yet for my hubby to have a selection of widows available to choose from! If I make it to my 70’s, I’ll probably do the same as your mom.
Sojourner - If you read mine, you’ll see it is pretty brief. Knowing that you’re from the same area will be helpful if I refer to the Canal Route or Big Ditch - hard to find those names on a map, but most residents know those landmarks.
bmonk - Wichita isn’t THAT small! LOL!
Those directions might work in the itty bitty town I’m near, but since I didn’t grow up there, I don’t know its history very well.
I have heard in western KS, they give directions like “take the first road after the tree….”
Rmom, as a kid I remember Maple as a small two lane brick road, West street was a narrow two lane road, the 21st street bridge was always about to fall down (but turned out the 2nd street bridge was the one to do it), and Town West was a wheat field.
Good Afternoon CDT (((Tribe!))))Lonewolf! How YOU doin’?
I’m fairly new here too, Sojourner. But you probably know that if you’ve been reading for a while.
It’s a nice space to be. I wish I had more time to spend here.
Got half my satcomms running Happy RAIN Dance
Gotta go….
MAYBE BBL
I remember when Towne West was opened. Well, I remember when the Wichita Mall on Harry was the ONLY mall in town. I remember when taking the bypass around south and then back up north, you had to exit at Pawnee because the Canal Route was still under construction.
I think Maple may still be brick between Seneca & McLean. I used to commute on Maple between Tyler & Maize Road, and it was only 2 lanes with ditches on both sides.
I actually remember (just barely) being at the very first River Festival - Seems like it was the year of Wichita’s centennial.
Lonewolf - maybe. My fadora and my oakley’s became her midnight snack. I was less than happy when I got up to see what the ruckus was at about 2am to find bits of felt and plastic all over the living room. Still not sure how she got them down off the entertainment center.??
Sojourner - I passed the half century mark last summer. My family lived within walking distance of South High from before it was built until we moved when I was in jr. high., so I don’t remember much west of Seneca until I was driving age.
And hello Sojourner You’ll enjoy the tribe. They can confirm I was really cagey about my gender, age, etc. I finally slipped up and went ahead to advised I was 50+, married with a grown son and live in the armpit of the universe. I don’t think they’ve cracked the exact location of the armpit, there are several, but this is THE ARMPIT. I’m also from Texas.
Meanwhile….doctor update. I’m cleared to return to work tomorrow, but the doctor is making appointments with phumologists and such. She also thinks my occasional annoying cough may be caused by the diuretic I take for high blood pressure, so she’s switched me. I’ll know in 3 months if that’s the cause, or if it’s something else making me cough.
Taffy update. She’s growing, I had to loosen her collar, punching another hole in it. They don’t seem to have kitten collars, but the sooner they’re collared the more adjusted they are to it. My son asked me why bother, she’s an indoor cat and I’m having her chipped, but I told him a collar is immediate confirmation this lost kitty has a family and is not some feral stray.
Enough for now. Welcome to all. Midafternoon treat—ice cream floats available at the *BT*. All flavors, all toppings (for those who don’t like floats).
Well, this was back when I was in college…..hmmmm, think think think. Late ‘70’s. Okay, my time was a bit off. However, you’ll note that it isn’t the current pit….
Back again. I’m getting tired from running around and working today. And tomorrow I have a CT Scan & Eye appointment in the morning at the VA Hosp. Go, go go!

LuvH8 - Excellent work! Reminds me of the blues brothers.

Hi, Rac! I am doing fine sir. Just finished a vehicle for repairs and am getting ready to go pick up some parts for another.
How about you?
ldyhwkd over 14 years ago
LOL. Honestly Grog - I just love a fadora… I sometimes miss mine. Our puppy decided it would make a good play toy late one night.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
That is a cool avatar, Grog.

Maybe your puppy was afraid the fedora was more important to you! LOL

Thank you, ♠Lonewolf♠. So is yours. I was about to comment on it.

Lonewolf - maybe. My fadora and my oakley’s became her midnight snack. I was less than happy when I got up to see what the ruckus was at about 2am to find bits of felt and plastic all over the living room. Still not sure how she got them down off the entertainment center.??

Hello Johana - Doc;s Nuclear Coffee is something I have been wanting to try!

Rmom - I must be older as I remember the bypass being built and playing on some of the bridges as they were made.

Sojourner - I passed the half century mark last summer. My family lived within walking distance of South High from before it was built until we moved when I was in jr. high., so I don’t remember much west of Seneca until I was driving age.

Good afternoon, Tribe
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Rmom - you are a little younger, like all cities there have been a lot changes. Seeing the same place over time one really sees it.
ldyhwkd over 14 years ago
Quaby - mmmm floats. Thanks!
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Thanks Quaby - THE ARMPIT is something I can’t guess about. Hope the change fixes your cough.

I would guess the Amarillo/Pampa area - because I’ve been there. If that ain’t the armpit of Texas, I don’t know what is.

Grog Corpus Christi is the Armpit of Texas, or at least it was in the 80’s and 90’s.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Quaby, my boss worked in Corpus for some time. He never referred to it as the armpit. In fact he liked it there.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago

Well, this was back when I was in college…..hmmmm, think think think. Late ‘70’s. Okay, my time was a bit off. However, you’ll note that it isn’t the current pit….
ldyhwkd over 14 years ago
Doc - Supposed to be warmer and nice again the rest of the week. Back in the 80’s tomorrow.

Up here in West Dakota, it’s still quite cool for June. I don’t think it got to 70 today, and it’s in the 40-50 at nights.

Hello guys. Just getting ready to shut down and do some beading before bedtime.
Nice lazy afternoon. I had missed the pilot of Persons Unknown so I just watched it online. It hooked me. Now if it just lives up to its promise.
So I bid you good night. Take care and see you Saturday.
