Good morning, tribe! Kab - Read your message from last night. I didn’t see the story about the bear, but we don’t seem to have those in KS, so guess it happened somewhere else. I was thrilled when I went to the college bookstore with my son. Both books we needed were available used AND my other son is taking two IT classes, and only needed earbuds & jump drives for those - no books! I’ve bought textbooks on-line, but I’m always concerned about getting the right edition of the books, if I don’t buy them from the college bookstore.

Rmom that’s where checking for author comes in. The books I bougth from bookstore check on line identical same author and edition. My daughter did the same and got for far less. I just need from campus course name, author and edition. Good for your son going ITT, there is one further east and one next to where we live.

Here I’ve waited (actually, there I waited) to come home to read the REAL version (the one I learned to drive my mother nuts) of Greasy Grimey Gopher Gutz and not one of the TRIBE got it right. The REAL version was sung around campfires of Boy Scout camps in a state with no rhyming word in the wild NE. I plan to record the REAL song in my young tendr voice and hack it into the BG so it will play anytime someone says Good Morning, hello, or Hi. Hold your breath, this could take a few years.

It was a long ride home tonight. I got out of the plant early so I wouldn’t get soaked by the storms surrounding me. The temperature dropped from 100 to about 85 in a short time.

But the stoms caught up with me and made the drive home even slower.

Hopefully they won’t knock me off the internet before I’m ready to go.

I don’t know that what I have is the original version (and probably isn’t) but may be the first recorded version (maybe). It’s from the Dr. Demento show but I don’t know where it is right now so I can’t get the lyrics from it either.

@LuvH8, I’ve never been in or near a hurricane, but I hear that sometimes they do spin off tornados–so yes, you could have hurricane and tornado. However, I doubt you could get hurricane and hail together…

We’ve had some big hail out in Dakota this past month–official measurement 18 inches around, or about 6 diameter–and the person who collected it said it had lost an inch or two in the freezer (no power). And that week there were a few other storms with hail larger than a man’s fist–the had a pic in the Bismarck Tribune.

Okay, all I remembered was “Dakota.” I didn’t google it.

LuvH8 - I have just missed tornadoes a few times. Once I was trying to find one (for a photo) that turned out to be rain wrapped and got to close, my car was being bounced all over the road and left the ground a couple of times. I was also in my car once when it was totaled by baseball sized hail with an 80 mph wind. The hail covered every inch of the car and knocked out all the windows. There were dents the size of your fist covering the car. Talk about a lot of noise! Once on my sales route I got up to NW Kansas and they had golf ball size hail a foot deep! I couldn’t make calles because I couldn,t get down some streets. The hail drifted down the streets 3 feet deep going over the hood of my car.

Yes, I remember hearing about Rapid City being shut down by a hailstorm–it was so deep the underpasses under the railroad (and other bridges) were full of ice 3-4 feet deep…

WARNING - Factoid Ahead! In the 70’s there were two hailstorms in South America that wiped out two villages. Both were soft ball sized hail. One was 3 foot deep and the other 5 foot deep. In the 80’s there was a large hailstorm in China. The government tried to deny it but finally let some scientist in. 3 days after the storm they still found hail the size of basketballs, one was 33 pounds 3 days old. I saw a picture of them holding it.

Rmom - No, that just missed me.

Sojo - I thought maybe that was east of you, but wasn’t sure. It just missed my mom’s house, well, the really big stuff did. She had some quarter-sized hail. She lived close to Herman Hill park. The worst I’ve experienced was in 1992. I parked our recently purchased SUV under the I-235 overpass on K-42 with several other vehicles until the worse part of the storm passed. It still got dented from the hailstones bouncing up, but at least it was minor in comparison to what it would have been without cover.

Missed out again. Everyone is gone. I have a few hail stories. Even my hubby long before I met him, remembers one that hit in a small town of Cheney, KS. The timing was just right bad way. No one was out the clusters of ice rocks from hail was good size, hubby thinks basketball. Did major damage all over town. I remember the one in 1992 we where married 11 years earlier and the house we where at I watched the whole system skirt HWY 400 know as Kellogg for Wichita. My hubby brother-in-law thought he better be going. I called my parent’s told them it’s coming but they had taken shelter. That vicious storm striped everything on trees. Made a sharp Rt turn headed to OK. My brother-in-law said it followed him as he had to head that way. He thought about pulling off somewhere away from the cell then watched as that system that Rmom was talking about produced a tornado in OK.
