It is harder on your knees to hike down a steep hill than it is to climb up, especially if you are wearing a backpack.

I know it’s a cartoon, BUT! If you suddenly lose confidence in your balance (and the slightest quiver from a fatigued muscle can do that.) it can make a descent very scary. Katy has good reason to worry.

My last serious mountain hike was through an area that had burned a couple of years before

Coming down was tricky, it was steep and a lot of unsettled ground

I did do a bit of dirt skiing, bit managed not to fall down

I think her question should have been, “How badly are you hurt?” rather than “Are you okay?” The missing nose should have been the give away.

… which is why I always have hiking poles. They’ve saved my “nose” more than once.

will either need knee braces the next time they hike the mountain or check this off their bucket list as a “once and done”.

Well Adam, look at it this way…if your nose is all but gone, you can get a new slimmed down model and your insurance will most likely pay for it. Not to mention you’ll lose several pounds without even trying!
