Actually, it was the Thinker or the Old Man or King Solomon in the Book of Ecclesiastes, and part of his problem was that he wasn’t hypocritical enough. However, remember the OLD TESTAMENT has limited positive and negative event horizons and were primarily based on illiterate tribesman’s stories that were told or sung over several centuries and more before being written down. So, 110 Degree Temperatures in the Canadian Province of British Columbia is something new under the sun; billion year old Antarctic Lake melting due to global climate change and draining into the Antarctic Ocean in about four days, is something new and would not be know without satellite imagery of the earth. The whole concept of satellite imagery would have confused the fuck out of the Empire of Jerusalem in the early first millenium BCE.
It’s best to read ALL of Ecclesiastes 1 to get a better perspective. It’s like if the same people have been saying, “Same ****, different day” since 1981. Now, they’ve seen immense and incredible change over the past four decades, but that’s not what they’re referring to. They’re referring to things like family squabbles, workplace drama, worldwide politics, etc., which are basically the same in 2021 as they were in 1981; only the settings are different. Those things are as sure as the sun rising and setting, the wind blowing, and the water flowing. Ancient people understood change. Solomon was speaking from despair and resignation. He was talking about the human condition.
