Splash, splash. You ended up taking a bath. Sorry. Word of advice. Don’t try jumping ditches wider than you are long. Bassets just aren’t distance jumpers. Good try though.
I had a Fred moment like this when I was 2 years, 9 months and 12 days old, and tried to jump a smallish goldfish pond in my Aunt and Uncle’s back yard. They were taking care of me while my parents went to the hospital for the birth of my younger brother, so yes, that age is precise and correct as I still remember his and my birth dates. If I recall correctly, the pool surfaces were slippery, the water was cold, and reminders of the incident were recited as long as my Aunt and Uncle lived.

Just missed Fred! If you were meant to fly you would be able to flap your ears like wings!

Fred next time try a running start. You still may not make it. Who’s knows you just might.

T’was the pause at the edge that did you in Fred. The plan was a running jump, as they say.. he who hesitates is lost.. and in your case, wet.

Fred, a jumper you ain’t. At best a healthy basset can jump about 2-3 feet with no support. You should stick to smelling, that you are very good at.
