Once upon a time the syndicates wouldn’t let a cartoonist go on vacation unless he built up several weeks of extra strips and reruns were reserved for television. (And now we have ‘classic’ strips where no new ones are being created at all. Syndicates must love selling stuff already in the vaults.)
