When I was entering Yellowstone, on a bicycle, the nice young lady who took my fee, told me that Griz was just waking up and was grumpy and topped out at 45 MPH. I was lucky to hit 4.5 MPH going up mountain passes. It was a bit of a nervous day. Spoiler alert: I lived.
Camping in Camden Maine as a kid. They told us a Mountain Lion was on the loose. We slept in the car that night. Today I think, he’s in the mountain forest, that’s where the heck he’s suppose to be. lol
Happened to my son and his friends when being dropped off in the wilds of Denali. They had to sign waivers that they understood they would not be rescued in case of any harm that may come to them. They hiked the mountain for over a week. They rain across 13 bears on the trek. Most of them mother bears with cubs.
They had to give the bears a wide birth so would trek trough frigged streams and rivers carrying their gear over their heads to avoid them. It was spring, but the waters were still freezing cold. They all lived to tell the tale. He’s got some amazing pictures to prove it.
In the 23 years We have lived in rural Cali I have never seen so many Predators as this year. My neighbor about a 1/2 mile away lost 4 Sheep to a Mountain Lion in June. I’ve seen Bobcat & Coyotes nearly every day this year, I need to keep a eye out for my Kitties. Remember it’s their Home we just visit the Parks.
Once when Garrison Keillor broadcast Prairie Home Companion from Laramie he talked about being afraid of cougars jumping on him from the trees on the UW campus. Have had one on the VA Hospital grounds over in Cheyenne. A friend of ours stopped walking his Wally-breedmate there.

Nojoqui Falls Park near Solvang CA has signs along the hiking trail that say basically the same thing and warn you to keep your children close to you.

I went to Yellowstone a few years ago and they handed out flyers warning not to look Buffalo in the eye or they will charge at you!

Skunks and some ferrets are sometimes called polecats. So pick your poison at that park.

Think they’ll turn back? Not really; this the opening episode of a series with the Drabbles on vacation most likely.

The deep bear claw territory marking scratches on the cabin door are real.
