Brutus is probably thinking that they couldn’t afford more fries because of his meagre tip.

She may have shorted him on the fries but I bet she added something special to his burger.

A short time ago, I saw a classic movie where someone said tipping was un-American. I think it was the Palm Beach Story, and the character who said it was playing the part of a millionare. That said, those people remember the light tippers and no-tippers…and they will make you pay, one way or another.

First, I tip what I feel you’ve deserved. Second, if the portions aren’t to my liking, I’ll take my custom elsewhere.

Unfortunately, too many today think that tipping is a requirement with an expected amount when it’s an evaluation of your work.

as i’ve said many times, i’m so happy to live in a country where you don’t have to bribe people to provide the service they should be providing as a matter of course…

hey, why tip? you are making a living wage now. in my area, some restaurants are paying $18 an hour and still can’t get workers. food costs more, lower quality and smaller portions.

Once waaaaay back in college at spring break at Daytona Beach, it was mixed drinks for 50 cents from 5 to 6pm. We (the boys) showed up a little after 5, and after our first round, tipped the bartender $20. We drank free for the rest of the night.

Tipping is just a hidden expense that allows employers to pay less than adequate wages

Tips is an acronym of “To Insure Prompt Service”. Brutus doesn’t stiff waitresses; too good a guy. I am sure he gave a fair tip on the previous day. However, to cut down on what he ordered today, is very bad management. Plus, that was just downright hurtful to Brutus, a FORMER regular customer……

A strange custom.. tipping. Why do only service folk expect tips? In my entire working career as a millwright.. I never expected a tip or get one. It’s your choice to work for wages and to expect the consumer to top it up to where you would like it… seems odd.

Perhaps the tip was an indication of services rendered, as will today’s.

There are so many commentators here today, who seem to be lucky enough to have never worked in the food service industry.

I’ve been going to the same little family run café near my house for brunch after work for about 5 yrs. (did takeout most of last yr) They have 6 tables, 3 people working (Mom, Pop, Uncle Joe).

I (semi) jokingly tell them I have a set budget for my meals. I can either pay for my brunch and leave a moderate tip 7 days a week, or I can leave a bigger tip and only stop in 5 days a week. They will get the same amount, just I will go to bed hungry 2 days a week.

Mom says “we’ll be ok, I don’t want you to go hungry.” Sometimes Uncle Joe will jokingly say “You’re putting on a little weight, tip better.”
