What kind of Gummies? Were they edibles? Bet they were. It would go a long way to explain his delusion that he can write about being a mature responsible parent.
Just because one is not something – does not mean that one cannot write about being that thing – and maybe know what to do better than someone who is that thing.
Husband and I have never been fortunate enough to have children. That does not mean that we don’t know how to be responsible parents, not so his sister who has 2 daughters. When out with his sister, BIL and 5 yo niece (when she was their only child) one day we were walking a parking lot with cars driving through. SIL and her husband just ignored niece for a bit than SIL said to niece “stop and wait for us” in a normal voice which did not give any sort of command. Niece kept on. I yelled “Stop Right There!”. Niece stopped so quickly that one could see the puffs shown in comics to show something happening quickly. Niece is now in college and they still have no control over her nor her younger sister.
Knowing what to do – as be a good parent – and actually doing it – ie. being that good parent – do not necessarily have to both exist at the same time.

He may know the right things. Just doesn’t want to do them himself.

Seems tricky to write real life fiction when you’re leading a fictional life, really.

Knowing the right thing to do and doing the right thing are two entirely different things.

These strips (yesterday’s and today’s) would make a lot more sense — and would be funnier — if he were talking to his wife instead of his daughter.
