I think the show would get better ratings if she shot the host instead!
Anyhow, perhaps if Richard Dawson was alive , he would have made a good host for this format just like he did in the futuristic game show in the movie “Running Man”.
This is probably THE most cogent argument against the death sentence (“penalty” is a stupid PR attempt to soften the severity – sort of like a referee throwing a flag!).
There are so many documented cases of innocent people being executed, only to find that evidence was being suppressed, people lied, etc.
I was once all for the death sentence – then I started looking at cold hard facts:
Death sentences each cost millions of taxpayer dollars. You could house an inmate for 200 years and never come close to the cost.
Death sentences do not deter crime. Period.
Death sentences have been carried out on severely mentally impaired people.
I love Carol Lay’s implication that if you choose the wrong one, you have to die as well. This would apply to prosecutors who knowingly withheld evidence, judges who are trying to win re-election by upping the number death sentences, officers who’ve wrongly framed folks, etc…
If one of my loved ones was murdered, I would want the convict to spend a long and painful life in prison until they die. Why kill them and let them get off easy?? The survivors have to live with the grief every day – why not the convict?
Juries are supposed to return a “Guilty” verdict only if they believe that the accused’s guilt has been demonstrated “beyond a reasonable doubt.” Presumably this would be even more relevant in death-penalty cases. I have thought that it would, er, sharpen a jury’s understanding of this if it were clear that, should later evidence exonerate the accused (or show mitigating circumstances that would result in a custodial rather than death sentence), the prosecutor and jury members would be themselves charged with murder (or, to be fair, maybe manslaughter).
Now there’s an interesting idea. From now on, every time an innocent person is executed, then the judge, the DA and the Jury should be executed as well as soon as the person is found innocent.
Maybe then people won’t be so damned cavalier and eager to murder another person, even if they’re delusionally pretending it’s “justice” somehow.
Not that Execution is ever Justice. It’s nothing but Puerile Revenge, and has proven to absolutely NOT be any kind of deterrent to anyone…

Didn’t really matter which one got it. As long as we get killer ratings.

I love this strip. I’ve gone back and read almost everything available on gocomics. The artwork and stories are just fantastic.

This show is missing two things 1.The host needs to grow a large crappy looking COVID beard. 2. The contestants need to be separated six feet apart.
