There are now two viruses that are related, but different. There is COVID 2019 that gets everybody sick and kills them and Delta which is much worse.

Will things ever return to normal? It doesn’t look that way right now

Most experts believed that it would take vaccinating somewhere between 70 and 90 percent of Americans for the country to reach something resembling herd immunity. The fact that COVID is a global pandemic, with many countries in the developing world lacking widespread vaccine distribution, argued against the kind of herd immunity eventually reached against diseases like polio. Still, the goal seemed within reach if enough of us could be convinced to get vaccinated. At that point, it was hoped, normal life in this country could resume, with people eating in restaurants, going to the movies, attending concerts, singing in church choirs, playing sports and attending school uninhibited by requirements to social distance or keep wearing masks.

I hope there are no antivaxxer astronauts. The space station could become a death trap.

“Get your news from comic strips” … really? The vast majority of the comic strips I see are very pro-science and encourage following the advice of the scientific and medical experts, who to a person keep advocating getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, and continuing to socially distance. Instead of “comic strips,” I think he meant “Fox News.”

If we – all of us – don’t do all we can to at least slow, if not stop the spread of COVID-19, the next mutation – and there WILL be one – may well be even more transmissible, cause even more serious symptoms, and be resistant to the vaccines we have available now. Even if get a breakthrough infection and you don’t develop a serious case yourself, you’ll be dangerously contagious and can give it to someone else – probably someone you care about – who is more at risk due to underlying health issues, old age, etc.
