I thought it was for…..the teachers.

Actually School was invented for parehts to get a break from the kids.

And here I thought it was to have an educated society. Silly me.

Retirement……… perpetual summer vacation. Oh yeah!

She is likely to become a teacher.

Hattie, believe me when I say that your teachers need a break from you just as much as you need a break from them.;-D

If you’ve got nothing to do, it’s your own fault.

Hattie never does anything, including exercise; that’s why her legs are so fat.

When we had summer vacation- WORK TIME.

Precisely. For you to have no school obligations while you help the family harvest the crops……

Growing up my brother and I learned quick not to complain about being bored. Raised by a single parent, we would call mom at work, she had plenty of “suggestions”. We could vacuum the house, do the laundry, clean the bathrooms to relieve us of our boredom. Basically she wanted us to replace boredom with tedium. Our level of boredom rarely reached that level.

I am surprised that a mischievous child such as Hattie would be so happy being bored.

More time for mischief.

A vacation is a vacation, but read the fine print. It varies from person to person.

Actually, it was for kids, when the U S had a more agriculturally centric society the kids were needed on the farm for work.
