Note: Removal of the mattress tag is only a cardinal offense (or damnable sin) for the purposes of this comic. No actual people were sent to hell for this reason.
It’s your mattress, it’s legal for you to tear off the tag. You’re supposed to! It’s to keep used mattresses from being sold as new. It’s the retailers who aren’t allowed to remove it.

“He who controls the past, controls the future….
… he who controls the present, controls the past.”
… Jane! Stop this crazy thing!”

Whew! Good thing this was Before Bleeb!

The tag actually says “Until delivered to consumer”. The retailer can’t remove it, but the buyer can.

All those vendors tore off mattress tags? It’s perfectly legal for the end user to do so.

That’s perfectly legal, once you’ve bought it. It’s the manufacturer/retailer who’s not supposed to tear it off.
