I went through this exact thing. Eventually it got straightened out but the credit union had to write a letter of apology and reverse the fees.

I don’t think I’ve had a checkbook for two decades, and I think I only maybe used one of the book I had before that.

Some guy signed his own name to a withdrawal slip on my account, and the bank took a month to “investigate” before I got my $200 back.

Love how they charge you for money that you don’t have in the first place….

They put a hold on a check he wrote, and that caused another check he wrote to bounce? That doesn’t make sense. Since the check numbers are almost only one away from being sequential, they must be talking about his personal checks.

Any way to charge a fee. Isn’t there a bank that tried to charge fees for taking to a human?

Mid-1980s, the company I worked for set up direct deposit. My first paycheck didn’t get deposited (this was before you could check your account online, so I had no notification of this). Since this was in the days when I wrote checks for all my bills, I bounced a LOT of checks before I figured this out.

When contacted, the company’s bank (the 2nd largest in Chicago) said they couldn’t find my bank (the largest in Chicago, and I’d included a voided check) — banks located across the street from each other!

After some angst, my bounced check fees were covered.

A law school classmate of mine went to work for a firm that handled only banks’ and financial firms’ litigation. He had some horror stories to tell about his clients (since it all came out in litigation, it was public info). Banks do not hire the swiftest or most honest.

Banks suck now. They used to be robbed. Now they are the robbers.
