Matching shirts, blue jeans and electric guitars and giant speakers and professional lights. These guys are not messing around. So much for fixed income!!
Know of any (pardon my French) geezers who formed a band? As for geezers still performing in the band they formed in their younger years, I’d say there is The Beach Boys who I once saw in the Clark County (Washington) fairgrounds.
One example of an installment of a strip that didn’t age well (pun semi-intended). Today, many of the still active veteran rock bands are in their 70s and 80s, and they still rock with the best of them.
When the name “The Bentwood Rockers” came to mind for a senior citizen’s band, I laughed out loud. Some ideas come from “out there” somewhere. Cartoonists are forever looking up and saying, “Whoever you are…Thanks!”
The rock band makes sense if it was drawn today-70 year olds today in high school in the 1960’s. However if it originally came out in the early 1990’s the band member would have been in high school in the 1930’s and likely the high school dean of boys who would paddled boys with n 1ong hair in 1967.
When this strip was originally drawn, this might have been a cute conceit, but 30 years later, it’s actually a fact. All of those wild Rockers are now Sexy Senior Citizens – with most rockin’ around 80-years-young clock!
It occurs to me that when many of us were young there was a lot of scoffing when people said “rock and roll is here to stay.” Danny and the Juniors sang that out in a record released in January 1958… 64 years ago.
Country & Western has been around longer; is folk music being created today? We have seen the rise and fall of bubble gum music, disco, and I don’t know how many other styles.

This reminds me of where I stay in Florida. All of the retired people partying like it was still high school. Crazy!Mid life crisis? Second youth?
I just know that I cannot keep up and I am one of the youngest in our group! :-))

I truly hope that Lynn’s father really did have a band with that great name.

Considering the age of several rock and roll stars these days, Grampa (and maybe even a great-grandpa or two) are right in their age bracket… :-P

You younglings might want to remember just exactly who started the whole sex, drugs and rock&roll thing.

Cartoonists have never known how to draw band equipment, especially drum sets.

Who do you think invented rock n roll? Elvis would be in his 80s. Jimi Hendrix in his 70s.

And the white haired lady in the back has those maracas at just the right height! I think Lynn did that on purpose. You know how she slips things in.

He’s an old hippie
And he don’t know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
He’s an old hippie
This new life is just a bust
He ain’t trying to change nobody
He’s just trying real hard to adjust
