My family has a history of long married lives starting at teenagers. My mom met my dad when she was 17; they married less than a year after they met & celebrated 67 years before my mom died in 2018. My older brother married his high school sweetheart soon after graduation; they were both 19. They’re celebrating their 46th anniversary in December. I met my husband when I was 17…and my story is already here somewhere.
“What about you, Liz?” …“Well, Dawn…. Maybe I’d kinda like to have my family and my brother’s friends wreck someone else’s marriage so I can settle for some damaged goods… some pasty, goofy, weasely guy who is whiny, gross and manipulative!”
My 23 year old daughter, who will be married soon, has already told me she doesn’t want to have kids. I’m fine with that. Not everyone should be parents.
Good marriages require the right person. We don’t control when we meet the right one, so we are still hostages to fate. It be would be sad to The One and pass it up for an event that would be just a memory.

If Dawn does not know what she wants to get done before she gets married, then chances are she is going to get married pretty young.

Wise words, Dawn. Experience life before settling down with family.

And just what would Dawn want to get done that she cannot do after she’s married?

Find someone who loves the same things Dawn. Then you can do them together.

That is an admirable plan. Once you get a job to pay for your adventures you will be on your way. …yup, that’s a trap.

Dawn’s pretty sure that someone will ask her someday. I was always afraid no one would ask me!

Dawn looks about 10 years old. This is a strange conversation for a young girl to have.

Close to same with me, I had goals after HS, then technical school, find a job, and I only met my future husband through a co-worker’s home.

I got married because I thought I was supposed to. What a mistake that was.
