I might be missed when i die, but very few people will know who is gone. Most people know me by sight, not by name so an obituary won’t help much unless someone finds a photo to go with it.
What Earl said in the first panel reminds me of that scene in a musical version of A Christmas Carol. Scrooge is seeing the future, where people are singing “Thank You Very Much.” He doesn’t realize they are celebrating his death, with the leaders dancing on his coffin.
I’ve had some bosses that when they pass, they won’t find enough people who care enough to carry the casket, unless it’s to make sure they are truly dead…
For the many who have commented on dying home alone and not being found in a timely fashion – I’ve signed up with a service that I phone into every a.m., and if they don’t hear from me by the time I chose (10:00) they first call me to make sure I didn’t just forget, and if I don’t respond they phone the people I designated (my local kids) to come check on me. It gives us all peace of mind. The one is use is https://dailycall.iamfine.com/? There may be others.
Earl to work at life so friends and family remember you is great, yet other side as me and family would not even care. Cousins do not talk to each other. I have 2 especially one who is a single man who has no one in his life no one will remember him.

What is it they say? Don’t cry because I am gone, but smile because I was here.

That’s when you turn it back on them. “So you want to be glad that I am no longer in your life?”

What a light hearted, cheerful discussion! I was focused more on what a grump Opal is and what a drag she’d be to live with.

My dog doesn’t even bark. She would be looking sadly out the window until someone noticed. Well, she might bark if I didn’t feed her.
