We have two Garmin GPS devices. The earlier one would spend at least 2 or 3 minutes or miles trying to get you to turn around and go the way it wanted. And when it gave up, it would say “Re-calculating” in a very haughty voice (seemed like). The more recent one just quietly decides you must have your reasons and does a full recalc (withOUT saying anything) then puts up the new map and maybe tells you the next turn. MUCH better!
I just tried the one in my wife’s new car. I drove from a place a few miles north that I know extremely well to another location I know. The GPS device kept trying to get me to go out of my way a bit to take a toll road. I think there might be some collusion going on.
My GPS used to have a glitch (until the next software update came along) where it would indicate that I had 0.7 miles to go when the bumper of my car was on the intersection where I had to turn. The map was correct, however.
My GPS is about 10 years old – I bought the lifetime maps – I got my money’s worth.
Many years ago my my recently deceased wife and I went to her cousins wedding in the middle of nowhere and used the Onstar in her SUV, we followed the directions turn by turn and made it with no problem. When we wanted to leave I pushed the button and the operator said they couldn’t find us and we needed to start driving and “hope” that the system would pick us up. It finally did but we thought it was funny (didn’t renew when it expired)
On my Garmin one of the voices I can use is called Dave. If you don’t follow the route for 4 or 5 turns he say “Ok I am done”. When you get back close to the route is starts up again.

Mission accomplished! I prefer keeping the voice guidance on silent most of the time, anyway.

Ours took us down a dead end & told us to turn into someone’s driveway. It got binned.

Mine were like those friends who would always say “Oh, you should have turned there.”

I still want one with Samuel L. Jackson doing the voice—“Turn right, mothaF….”
