Trying to figure out the greater non sequitur here… To paraphrase: He doesn’t ask what she means, and says “Don’t let anyone insult your aspirations,” which is good advice but doesn’t answer the real question she’s asking. And she replies, “I’m going to be a clown because I dreamed about it,” which doesn’t fit the way she is usually depicted.
When our kids, now 50 and 47, were 4 and 7, we were taking them to the Shrine Circus, and on the freeway we passed a VW with 3 or 4 clowns in it. “Look”, we said, pointing at them. “Clowns”.
And the kids both responded "Don’t point your fingers at them. “They can’t help it.”
