Classic SF / Fantasy story called (I think) The Angelic Angleworm. The premise was that the Cosmic Linotype Machine in Heaven was malfunctioning and randomly dropping some letters of the alphabet into the wrong positions. The first clue was when someone saw an angleworm suddenly sprout wings and generate a halo. [ANGLE >>> ANGEL]
