If I lent just $1 to everyone I can’t stand, I would have gone bankrupt 35 years ago.

One of my expressions when I run across someone repeatedly is, ’It’s a good think I don’t owe you any money."

I learned pretty quickly, after not getting both loaned money or books back, “Neither a borrower nor a lender be”. Sometime later, when I said no to a friend asking for a loan, he got upset, playing the “Friend Card”. I simply replied, “Why do you think you have a right to my money?” He was mad for awhile, but I guess he finally just realized it was never going to happen, so he forgot about it and never asked again…

If you lend me $100, I will be back next week for another $100. I will have found your soft spot.

Yup, you can always count on the scumbags. I had a used refrigerator that still worked, put it on the sidewalk with a sign, “Free” on it. It sat there for over a week. I changed the sign to “For Sale” and someone stole it that night.

Nope. You will instead become their slot machine – if they just keep at you you’ll payout regularly.

I think that Ben Franklin once said, “To make a man a friend, ask to borrow something of his.” Pay it back before he asks for it and he’ll be a good friend.

I always tell someone who borrows money from me that it’s really a gift and I don’t want it back. He should do the same when he is in the same position if he can. Usually, I got it back anyway.

If you must borrow money, borrow from a pessimist. They don’t expect it back.

A very timely corollary to Hamlet’s:

“Neither a borrower nor a lender be; for loan doth oft lose both itself and friend".
