I remember an Ernie Kovacs sequence that riffed on this (or is this riffing on that?). Two gunfighters draw and fire about 80 rounds at each other at about 6 feet and neither one falls. Then Kovacs lights up a Dutch Masters and smoke spurts out from a bunch of holes.
