I have a 75" 4K tv and if I had the money would buy a larger one. Watching movies at home is way better. Less cost, snacks readily available, nobody talking during the movie, etc.
I stopped my upsizing at a 55" Android TV as I realised that we were spending less than 2 hours watching TV every day! Only my (74-year-old) mom watches anything more than that on TV. I prefer a desktop for my work and entertainment. My sister has her laptop and her mobile. It’s not like we gave up TV – it’s just that we started to prefer other types of screens over it.
My parents didn’t even buy a color tv until 1976. I saw one for the first time in a college rec room in 1974, the Wizard of Oz. I finally saw what everyone was talking about when Dorothy gets blown to Oz by the tornado.
I watch (and listen to) much less TV now, but the TV is on all day (no sound), when I’m not “watching”. I try to find Nature or Space shows, for the visuals, but if none of those, I put it on an “App” that cycles landscape or animal photos. Right now, it’s on “Earthflight”, lots of scenes of birds flying…

In the old days, didn’t TVs have a prominent On/Off switch?

Our TV is just a monitor for one of our computers and we use it so rarely the computer is still on win7.

Our first TV was a 15" black & white and at first it ran from the Sunrise when the local TV station came on the air until midnight when it shut down.
