There’s a lot to be said for that! As for me, I would put in earbuds and start listening to music.

What an unusual strip today. Andy Capp is sober, quiet, and he has Flo with him!! Is he sick or something??

Andy must be reading the Racing Form. I can’t think of anything else that he would read.

Take out the papers and the trash

Or you don’t get no spendin’ cash

If you don’t scrub that kitchen floor

You ain’t gonna rock and roll no more

    Yakety yak (don’t talk back)

Just finish cleanin’ up your room

Let’s see that dust fly with that broom

Get all that garbage out of sight

Or you don’t go out Friday night

    Yakety yak (Don’t talk back)

You just put on your coat and hat

And walk yourself to the laundromat

And when you finish doin’ that

Bring in the dog and put out the cat

    Yakety yak (Don’t talk back)

Don’t you give me no dirty looks

Your father’s hip, he knows what cooks

Just tell your hoodlum friend outside

You ain’t got time to take a ride

    Yakety yak (Don’t talk back)

Yakety yak, yakety yakYakety yak, yakety yakYakety yak, yakety yak…

Turning off hearing aids doesn’t mean you don’t hear. Most people have losses at certain frequencies. You can hear but not understand. If going out with somebody with hearing aids, don’t stand under the store/restaurant speaker for the music system. Many hearing aids have the microphone in the top and the music overwhelms your talk. Sit at a booth to help isolate sound. Let the person with hearing aids sit with their back tot he restaurant. just went o my 50th high school reunion. In the main room, once the “band” started playing, it became all but impossible to hear. Moved out to other rooms and was better.

A joke that predates vaudeville (and possibly the dinosaurs):

    “Our teacher talks to herself.”

    “Is she crazy?”

    “No, she thinks we’re listening!”

My younger brother has had a hearing loss since he was about 4 years old. At a family gathering after we were all adults he confessed that by the time he was a pre-teen, he would turn off his hearing aid whenever Mom would chew him out for something!

I honestly wish I could do that. Or have my own remote and press the “Mute” button on them.

That must be quite useful. would be nice if life had a volume control. A pause button and a rewind button would also be really handy.

That explains why his left ear is smaller than his right ear – she done talked his ear off.
