I thought that back in the fall, we had that comic strip where Elizabeth picked out her own clothing? How is this going to work? Elizabeth is a 12-year-old girl, built like a stick and a foot shorter than her middle-aged mother, whose fashion sense comes from the 1950s. Has she lost her mind?
Elly should say: “No, Elizabeth, you may not borrow my sweater. And since you don’t like any of your sweaters, let’s you and I package them up and send them to the Thrift store where they’ll find a good home!” Nothing like having your mom “help” you clean out your closet to make you really appreciate what you’ve got (I speak from experience).
There was a time growing up, when my Dad, my brother, and I were all able to wear the same size clothes. In the mornings it was: First up – Best dressed!
What a sweet, dedicated mom! Her dear daughter can wear the new purple sweater and mom can continue wearing the old purple sweater. Too bad in my family I had to wait until the ‘new’ one was replaced by 2 even newer ones. Not before.
I couldn’t wait to be big enough to “borrow” my mother’s clothes. Unfortunately, I took after my father and by the time I was old enough, her clothes were too small. And she had some beautiful stuff. Damn.

Teach her to knit. Then she can make her own and also learn appreciation for craftsmanship.

Elly, you taught your daughter well. Husbands will understand this.

First, Elizabeth allows April to make a mess in the house, doesn’t clean it up, and then wants to borrow her mother sweater?? I think not.

Mom, It is the highest compliment if your teen daughter wants to borrow your clothes. Go with it,

My first summer job was cleaning out the basement of our local hospital. I wore my Dad’s clothes and for weeks everyone thought I was a boy.

If we all got a dollar for every time a woman said “I don’t have a THING to wear….”.

Elly’s mistake is trying to reason with Liz. A straight “no” would have been better.

My mother was 33-years-old when I was born so there’s no way in the WORLD I would have worn the clothes of a 45-year-old woman when I was 12! (⊙_⊙)
