Early October is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather is usually perfect — highs in the 60s to 70s, most of the bugs are going into dormancy, if you’re lucky you can spot pelicans and other migrants passing through, the trees and shrubs and grasses are turning color, fallen leaves make a lovely crunch as you walk, the lawn is going dormant and so doesn’t need mowing very often, and it’s generally not very wet (although this year, we’re getting a normal amount of October precipitation and it seems like a lot, since we had a severe drought over the summer).
In our house no one is allowed to mention Christmas until after Thanksgiving.
We don’t care if you say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, not at all. But Christmas MUST WAIT ITS TURN! There is a natural order to all things and recently Christmas has defied that order.
I’m not at war here, with Christmas, not at all. I’m happy to see it and fully enjoy it. It its proper time.

How fun, Gracie.

Based on all the Christmas trees at Costco yesterday, you would expect the answer to be " less than a month".

Kids have a different state of mind?

Have to get under 10 weeks before you can ask…..

11 weeks and only 5 paydays! (if you get paid every 2 weeks)

The answer is always the same, until after Thanksgiving: “A lot, so stop asking.”

And as smart as you are, I think you can figure it out for yourself and not irritate your family.

80 days. October is easy. Just take 86 and subtract the date.
86 – 6 = 80

So, for now, it’s Trick or Treat, Graciela!

You have plenty of time. Let’s get Halloween and Thanksgiving (both) over with first, shall we?

When I was a kid, we asked how many days until Halloween.
Then we asked “How many days until Thanksgiving”.
To every Holiday, there is a Season …
…
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late.
