Somehow, I think I know how that would feel -though I never played baseball or softball (inadequate hand-eye coordination, I also couldn’t run, couldn’t field, couldn’t throw. Probably wouldn’t have been any good as a batboy, either) -but I lettered in football and wrestling. Today? Arthritis, two artificial knees, and all of my fingers and toes have been broken at least once. So… yeah. Memories :)
I don’t even pretend that I’m anywhere near peak conditioning. I do work out and walk on an almost daily basis but I honestly don’t have the motivation ( other than staying away from doctors and hospitals ) I once had. I’ll be 77 in a couple of weeks and I reckon I’m in good shape for the shape I’m in!
This guy reminds me of a lot of the people who take up pickleball in our leisure village. Maybe they played a sport decades ago, but they’ve been sedentary, in this case since his 40s. They’re not in good condition and get injured.
A guy told me he was interested in playing, but every time he drove by the courts there was an ambulance.
I played my last completive fast pitch softball game at the age of 46, my last slow pitch at the age of 52. I would’ve of continued, but I couldn’t find a senior league in my area, senior being 50 yrs or older.

I’m not the man I used to be. But then, I never was.
