I carry cash mostly for the g-kids benefit. Got into the habit of folding it into dollar origami. They love it and yes, it still gets spent. I get to see them more often so sometimes they’ve been hanging on to their favorite designs.
I always have cash in my pocket, but I also do my own laundry, so this isn’t a problem. Besides, a few of the stores I go to prefer cash, because then they don’t have to pay the additional banking fees charged for checks or credit cards.
One day many many years ago, my mom didn’t notice that dad had left his wallet in his pants pocket (something he did so rarely that she didn’t bother to check any more), & when the load with his pants was finished washing, she found $1200 scattered among the damp clothes!

How many times does she have to tell you, mister, to empty your pockets before throwing your trousers in the hamper or washing machine?

Unlike tissues, the money can be dried and used. The tissues, not so much.

Haven’t found any cash in the laundry since my wife started WFH. Used tissues – every time she puts a bathrobe in the bin.

And the folding kind is the best. Best my wife gets is nickles and the occasional quarter.
