Typical male. The only male I have ever known to read the instructions first before ever trying to do whatever was my dad. He’d also stop and ask for directions every time he got lost, which was always since he had the world’s worst sense of direction. No exaggeration, the man could get lost on a straight street. I saw it. Now getting him to follow the directions he was given, totally different kettle of fish. Never understood why he asked and did what he wanted.
I gave up on prefabricated shelves as they are seldom strong enough to meet our needs (a television, associated electronics, and lots of heavy books make particle board shelves weep), so I started building my own. Those don’t come with instructions either, but since it’s my creation, I know how to cut the lumber and put it together.
I assembled a moderate-sized greenhouse last January, the instructions were all pictures. The only text in the pamphlet was the legalese – in 16 languages!

I bought a couple of bookcases recently from Homebase, neither of them came with instructions, still managed to build them….

I’m a guy. I never read the instructions until someone gets hurt.

Instructions? Now things just come with badly drawn illustrations, some lines, but no words. Back to illiteracy!

Just give me a couple of detailed pictures of how it looks when it’s done. I’ll figure out the rest.

Instructions are a crutch, safety rules are for sissies.
