I worked in a restaurant many years ago. We would be cleaning up, mopping the floor and wiping the tables and people would just be sitting there like nothing was going on. I told one group that Denny’s was open 24 hours and maybe they would be more comfortable there. That was my last night working there.
Any time my wife and I have lingered in a restaurant near to closing time, we’ve always been aware enough of what was going on around us to know that it was time to leave. (I never thought that would be something worth bragging about, but . . . )
