And did you all give thanks to Theodore Roosevelt for that? https://wonderopolis.org/wonder/how-did-the-teddy-bear-get-its-name#:~:text=The%20teddy%20bear%20is,a%20bear%20they%20had%20captured.
I have a good sized teddy bear (and their friends) collection. In addition to the small bedroom filled with stuffed bears and a variety accessories, pictures, etc – know as “the teddies’ room”, I have a teddy bear village – started as a Christmas village with teddy bear (and other bear) figurines, small toys, etc as the residents. We never liked taking it down and it would stay out longer and longer – the Teddy Christmas village was renamed the the Teddy Winter village to stay out longer. One day in an April I was upset to soon be taking it down and then had an idea – change it by season! The gazebo (a bird feeder) in the park could be the location for summer concerts (same musician bears as “play” for the caroling) and so on.
We have been doing this for some years – in April 2020 we even had the Teddy Village in Covid-19 lock down – the police, fire, doctor and nurse bears were about. The Panda bears (which is what I mean by “also their friends”) who own and run the Panda Panda Vegan restaurant – mom was at the door while dad was taking an order to a customer, the Honey shop, and the produce store were also “open”. A bear was out “exercising” which was allowed here – he was roller skating. In the early days those who could stay open included tax preparers so the accountant Charles Bear – “Honest accountant. Open all year. No tax return too big or too small” – per his sign at his popup location under the tree in the center of the village, was setup – but no customers. The rest of the village was empty and shut down.
Now they will have a new holiday to celebrate.
I have another set of teddy bear figurines (these are all a matching set) I rotate in a living room display case by month. (Duplicates from these “live” in the village.)

I’ve often wished I had a teddy bear when I was at work. Who safer to tell my troubles to?

I didn’t have a teddy bear so I brought my dragons (actually they are already at my work desk – I have 3, plus their pets).

The fun part: It’s a Real thing. Observed annually on every Second Wednesday of October, the “Holiday” supposedly goes all the way back to 1902.
