I have no idea of when this specific strip falls in the C & H chronology. And I love panel three. But in panel three Hobbes’s tail and fur is not all flared out. It became customary at some point in the strip, whenever Hobbes was startled, to draw him that way.

Yup! Mommy – the recognised monster slayer.
