When my son was 7 and his room was always a mess, I made him sign a paper saying he would never leave it messy again. I took it to work and had a friend notarize it. Obviously not legal, but it sure scared him. Yes, he did much better after that.
It’s been awhile, but didn’t Skyler go to ‘Summer Camp’ with the Marines. I know that they should have shown him on how to keep a clean and tidy Billet.
Reminds me of a Simpson’s episode, once Marge asked Homer if he remembered his promise to the kids (about a treat or something) and he responded “Yep, when they’re 18 they’re outa here.”
Dad’s place is much worse, and it’s the whole house
Dad just can’t throw out paper. 50 years worth of phone books, because he needs to look up where someone lived 50 years ago. Magazines with articles he wants to read again. 60 years worth of store catalogues, because he NEEDS to see what stuff cost 50 years ago. He’d write out grocery lists for four stores and go to each to get the best deals. Still has the lists from 20 years ago and the receipts to go with them. He’s take his blood pressure every 20 minutes and carefully write it down. Yup still has the papers.
Met a guy once who said that when he got home on his 18th birthday, he found his suitcase packed on the front steps and the locks changed. I believed him.
Loved reading the wide range of keeping the room clean to leaving home. I don’t remember the room being a mess and I did hang up my clothes each night and got out what to wear the next day. Really saves a lot of time doing that especially when you are not totally awake.

Great idea. Doubt many parents would stand their ground, however.

Judging by his desk as work, it should be “do as I say, not as I do”.

We would clean their room for them – everything not put away went in a trash bag – didn’t really have to tell them to clean their rooms from then on..

Parenting is not about “tired of telling”; it’s about consistency. Reap what you sow.
