Carroll O’Connor (Archie) was in some battles acting as a general in some war movies: Kelly’s Heroes and The Devil’s Brigade.

Just to be historical, it was a defeat for the Americans. Yes the British suffered huge losses-25% of all British officers killed in the war died there, BUT after the battle the British learned to respect the Americans and treated them as a valid enemy, not just a group of yokels. The Americans put a spin on it to say ‘see we don’t need special training we held out until the ammo failed.’ the result would be for he next two years the Americans would lose almost every battle they fought against a professional enemy who’d learned to respect them, until the bleeding American army , on dec 19, 1777 retreated to a winter refuge called, Valley Forge.

People tend to forget or not realize what a groundbreaker this was at that time.

Skyler’s desk is like the one I used in elementary school in the 50’s. His desk and Comos’ black and white saddle oxfords.

For younger readers who have no idea who Archie and Edith are, they were husband and wife on the 1970’s TV show, ‘All In The Family’. It was groundbreaking in many ways in openly dealing with such social issues as racism. In one of the most memorable scenes, Sammy Davis Jr. gave avowed bigot Archie a big kiss.
