Rose’s Tex-Mex chili has nothing in ‘heat’ compared to Indonesian ‘Fire-Food’, like Sambal. Just speaking as an ex-U.S. Navy sailor who has sailed around the world and sampled the cuisine while doing it.
Chili place I used to frequent had a couple dozen different flavors labelled with a 1-10 hotness. 7 was about right for me, 8 if I wanted to spice it up. Decided to try the 10 once. My first comment, “great, and not as hot as I expected.” Ten seconds later I could barely breathe and couldn’t talk.
I like interesting flavors in my food (onion, garlic, oregano, even horse radish). What I don’t like, in spite of living for many years in Mexico, is chile – to me it’s all searing heat, not flavor that adds to my enjoyment of the food I’m eating.

Jimbo, you could not smell the spices? You didn’t know that Rose puts extra spice in her cooking? Her mother does.

It is smart to head for the hills when Vicki shows up.

It’s that bottle of habanero flavored capsaicin. Like Meemaw like Vicki.

I leave out heat when cooking, others eating have no tolerance. If I even wave dried peppers over the pot, they complain.

Whatever happened to common sense? about 3 years ago
I was just mentioning yesterday about how the artists/writers of this strip seem to have this fixation with nasty hot peppers.
Sneaking this horrible stuff into an unsuspecting person’s food isn’t funny, and shouldn’t be the source of humor.

The bolt of lightning, on the side of the pot, should have been a clear indication of the heat of the sauce. Both in temp and Scoville.

He should know to ask if she is using MeeMaw’s cookbook.
