    Where I live there are few basements: water table is too high, which is typical in the South.

    I saw a video of a Rat Terrier working on a farm, killing rats. The farmer would lift a bale of hay with his tractor and a rat would run out. The dog was twice as fast as the rat and would pounce on it, shake it viciously and drop it, dead. Then do the next one.
