    Yeah, this takes decoding. In the 1939 “Wizard of Oz” the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) called Dorothy (Judy Garland) “my pretty”.

    If you follow etymology, you’ll find that “pretty” used to be a noun: “a pretty person or thing” (from 1736 but no longer used).
